We Helped Obama Win... and becoming an am-badassador for Creative Citizenship in Chattanooga

By on

We are pretty excited about Wednesday night's Creative Citizenship program, We Helped Obama Win, with Josh Higgins and Daniel Ryan from the Obama for America campaign.

The great thing about it is, in spite of the event's name, this is a bi-partisan event that will hopefully instruct and inspire us all to sharpen the tools we employ everyday in our professional and creative lives to make smarter more effective campaigns of all kinds.  It's about engaging in a political process and using creative design thinking to tackle issues and solve problems. It's about stepping up and really committing ourselves to stay involved and in touch with our local leaders in government and finding ways to build and strengthen those relationships. And creating new processes to do so if that is what is needed.

Higgins and Ryan will have much to share using their own experience working with the President on an incredibly successful and historic campaign.  Please check the links for more about each of these talented men and their work portfolios.  Remember, there will be an audience Q+A too so get your questions ready.

CREATIVE CITIZENSHIP PROGRAMS ALL WEEK LONG AT THE LIBRARY

We have a guest blogger, Enoch Elwell, who has some very compelling words about staying involved with creative citizenship program all week.

Enoch Elwell is a cofounder of the CO.LAB, connecting regional startups with the resources they need to be successful. Enoch has developed events and programs like 48Hour Launch, Will This Float, SpringBoard, and the GigTank, and is currently developing new programs to grow stronger startup communities around the country.

These two events are coming up soon and I think you would be interested in engaging with them:

Saturday 1/26 9:00am - 6:00pm

Here's why...
We've had a long history of Creative Citizens in Chattanooga collaborating together to creatively solve problems and build relationships in our community. Unfortunately, a relational divide has developed between our current civic leaders (who have accomplished a lot of good in the past) and the growing group of rising community leaders who have been behind many of the current successes recognized in our city.

As Creative Citizens and community leaders in Chattanooga, now is the perfect time for us to address this problem, since the upcoming City Council and Mayoral elections have brought this conversation before the public. If we can be willing to meet with our current & future civic leaders, establish relationships & develop an ongoing conversation with them, and be willing to learn while contributing our own ideas and skills toward collaboratively solving problems in our community, this election cycle can mark the beginning of a much needed turning point for Chattanooga's community.

If the idea of building relationships and community engagement excites you, here are some ways you can make a significant difference in bringing this ambitious goal to life:
1. Meet, learn, & engage with our City Council candidates:
Friday 1/25 5:30pm - 9:00pm
This is where the conversation starts. Chris Woodhull is guiding the conversation around how we can develop an ongoing dialogue with our city council representatives.

2. Spend a day collaborating with others to develop & execute plans that build community engagement:
Saturday 1/26 9:00am - 6:00pm
This event is all about making your best ideas happen. We are facilitating the process of joining your ideas with the team of skills needed to execute it. (project planning, design, social media marketing, coding, street team, etc) Our hope is that by the end of the day, several mini-campaigns & projects will be launched, which will be implemented over the next few months.

3. Be an evangelist for the vison
  • Forward this post to at least 5 friends you think should be in the know.
  • Like the Creative Citizenship facebook page, attend the Forum & Designfest event, then invite your friends to do the same. This has a huge multiplier effect in spreading the word and getting more people involved!
  • Follow @CC_Chatt on twitter to see the latest developments, and mention #citizenCHA as you talk about how excited you are about what's brewing here!
  • Know of any events that should be promoted, or have some ideas of your own? Send them our way and we'll promote!

I really appreciate your support in this effort. Let's keep making Chattanooga awesome! - EW.
